2.3. I have an Internet connection. How many calls can I make with my bandwidth?

Theoretically speaking, it depends on the compression method used, which is determined by the type of phones used. In the case of IP phones or analogue phones with ATA adaptors, bandwidth will be slightly less than in the case of a softphone or software telephone, but it will never go beyond 3 Kbytes/s of upload and 3 Kbytes/s of download. So if your upload bandwidth is 512 Kbits (approximately 60 Kbytes/s) you will be able to make 20 calls or more simultaneously.

You may check how many voice lines your Internet connection supports with our quality meter.

2.4. I would need 4 call lines and I am worried that the rest of the Internet services (web, mail, etc.) that we use in my company might interfere with the quality of the calls. Is there a solution if a problem comes up?

Today most ADSL routers or other kinds of routers have a QoS service that prioritizes certain types of services over other services such as VoIP. This is the reason why even when you are using your Internet connection to its full capability, the calls will continue to be made easily.

2.5. My Internet connection has gone down before and I am worried that I might miss a call due to this problem. Does Monema Empresas offer a solution to this?

Although it is true that in the last few years data connections are as reliable as traditional analogue lines, it is possible to set up your Monema for Business PBX so that if one extension is not available the call is forwarded, either to a telephone number of your choice, for example, your cell phone, or to a voice mail service. This way you will not miss any important calls.

4. GENERAL QUESTIONS

4.1. What is IP voice or VoIP?

VoIP is a technology that allows voice communication through the Internet. To this end, the sender compresses the voice (similar to what you do with an MP3 file) and it is transported in data packages to the addressee who decompresses and plays it.

This type of technology is widely used internally by the very telephone service providers and it has started to reach the users thanks to, among others, products like Monema for Business.

The main advantage of this technology is that it makes it possible to avoid the physical limitations of traditional lines when transmitting. For example, if we want to add one more line to our telephone service, we do not need another ISDN line/cable but just send twice as much packages through the Internet.

4.2. What is an extension?

An extension is an internal number in a company that can make and receive calls. An extension is generally assigned to each seat or telephone terminal within a company.

Go back

4.3. How many extensions do I need for my company?

In most cases, as many telephone terminals or softphones as your company requires. For example, if your company has five workers and you want each of them to take calls with their own internal number then you will need five different extensions.

Go back

4.4. What is a line?

With Monema for Business you will have an unlimited number of outgoing lines, that is, you can make as many simultaneous calls as you wish. However, for the incoming calls that you receive from your clients, you must hire a certain amount of lines depending on how many simultaneous calls you expect to receive.

Go back

4.5. How many lines do I need for my company?

As many lines as simultaneous calls you wish to receive.

Go back

4.6. What is a public number?

It is an accessible number to the traditional telephone network from which you will be able to receive calls from landline or cellular telephones. If you already have numbers with your present provider and you wish to keep them you can keep the numbers with Monema for Business through portability.

4.7. What is a softphone?

A softphone is a software telephone. It is an application that makes it possible for telephone calls to be made using your PC sound devices. It can be used simply with a microphone and speakers or with a headset,- similar to how phone operators speak.

Initially all softphones supporting SIP and certain audio codecs may be used with Monema for Business. You can also use different softphones for cellular phones that allow VoIP calls to be made using a 3G data connection or a Wi-Fi connection.

We recommend the use of Phonip Plus if you are going to make calls from your desktop or laptop computer.
